Hi There!
I’m Emma!
I’m a mum of 2 (one girl, one boy), and a Paediatric Occupational Therapist with over 10 years of specialised experience.
I’m passionate about making life easier for new parents by sharing practical tips and advice that make those common (often stressful) challenges easier to navigate. And because we all want the best for our little ones, my goal is to help you do this in a way that’s also best for your child. It’s all about doing what’s best for both you and your beloved little one, not sacrificing one over the other.
I started Brightest Beginning to provide a place that parents can rely on to get reliable, practical information that takes the guesswork and uncertainty out of parenting, and gives them the peace of mind that they are giving their little one the best start to life.
Why developmental milestones are so important
In the first 6 months, your baby should develop foundational skills that will prepare them for crawling, walking, eating, play, writing, emotional regulation & stability and much more.
Delays in reaching those early milestones have long-lasting effects that can stick with your little one for months or even years.
But by the time developmental delays and issues caused by delays become noticeable, they are often difficult to correct. Things like…
- Flat spots on their head
- Refusal to do tummy time (which delays the progression of so many other key skills)
- Poor motor skills
- A weak neck
- Thumbs that stay turned in, making it hard for them to hold things
Doing everything you can to help your little one’s development from day 1 is the best way to put these worries to rest.
Here’s how Bright Beginnings will help
Learn How to Stimulate Your Baby & Assist With Development
These sound like small things, but so many new parents have questions or are confused about how to pick up, hold and carry their babies.
And what many don’t realise is that the way you do these things, and the process you go through each time can actually be done in a way to stimulate them and help with many aspects of development!
In Bright Beginnings you’ll learn how to do each of these things safely, and the techniques that actually help stimulate your little one and assist with development.
Learn how to do tummy time properly
So many new parents struggle with tummy time:
- When to start
- How often to do it
- Different techniques to use at each age and stage of development
- What to do if your baby doesn’t like tummy time (ways to adapt your tummy time activities to gradually build up your little one’s comfort levels and tolerance)
- Understanding what’s normal at each month, and what to do if your bub falls behind
Teach your baby to roll over independently
Rolling over independently seems like a small thing, but it’s actually an incredibly important milestone. This is their first step into exploring the world around them by themselves!
Once your baby can roll over independently:
- Their risk of SIDS is reduced
- They start developing other muscles in their back, neck and hips that they’ll need for other crucial skills like sitting and crawling
- It helps them improve their body awareness and coordination
Teach them to sit by themselves
Once your little one learns to sit up independently it opens up a whole new world to them!
- Sitting allows them to look around and see everything around them – which leads to a happier, more content baby
- Studies show that sitting up has a huge positive effect on their ability to learn about objects
- It also allows them try new types of play
- Once they can sit, you can start playing games and activities to prepare them for crawling
Learn how to play with your little one
Play is a really important part of your baby’s development for so many reasons, including:
- Fun! Play time should be a joyous experience for you and your little one
- It’s one of the key ways in which we bond with our babies
- Creating a secure attachment, that forms the foundation for healthy emotional regulation as they grow
- Toys are also a huge part of play, and assist in your little one’s development in a very big way. But it’s important to introduce the right toys at the right age, which is why I give my specific toy recommendations at every stage

Frequently Asked Questions
What ages does this cover?
This course is for 0-6 month old babies.
My baby is already 3-6 months old, will this still be helpful for me or will most of the content be irrelevant?
Yes! Each module in Bright Beginnings builds upon the last. And just because your little one is older, doesn’t mean you don’t need or won’t use content from earlier months. Let’s say, for example, they are struggling with tummy time. You may need to go back to an earlier month and use techniques from earlier months to help build their strength before doing the activities recommended for their current age. This applies to every developmental milestone. If your little one is slightly behind where they should be for their age, or struggles with something in particular, it’s very common for you to need to jump back to an earlier month in the course and use the techniques shown there.
I’m pregnant, can I buy the course now and use it when my baby is born?
Yes, definitely. Your access isn’t time limited, so you can buy now and use it whenever you are ready.
My baby was born premature. Is Bright Beginnings a good fit in this case?
Absolutely! You will simply need to adjust the timing of the milestones and activities based on how early your baby arrived, which I teach how to do in the first video in the course.
My baby has a medical condition that impacts development. Will this help?
Unfortunately Bright Beginnings is not suitable if your little one has a medical condition that impacts their development. The milestones and activities in Bright Beginnings are based on a neurotypical developmental timeline and are therefore not suitable. In this case I recommend seeking medical advice to get tailored recommendations for your baby.
How long do I have access to the course materials after purchasing?
There’s no time limit on your access to the course. You’ll get access to all of the materials as long as the course exists.
Will the course work on my device?
Bright Beginnings is accessible on both desktop and mobile devices through any web browser. It will work on any device with a fully functional web browser and internet connection.
